Toyota Developing A New SUV For India

According to a major update, global car manufacturer Toyota is planning a new SUV for the Indian market. This upcoming SUV by Toyota will sit in between the Toyota Fortuner and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

This Toyota SUV will directly rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV 700, Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio N, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector, MG Hector Plus, and Mahindra Thar Roxx.

1. Toyota is planning the SUV to directly rival the Thar Roxx and Scorpio N
2. Will be priced between Rs 18 lakh – 23 lakh, ex-showroom, India
3. Toyota plans to launch the SUV by 2027
4. Will be locally assembled in India

• Toyota Rumion
• Toyota Innova Hycross
• Toyota Fortuner
• Toyota Innova Crysta
• Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor
• Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Toyota presently has no SUV to directly rival the likes of Thar Roxx and Scorpio N. Toyota is aiming to launch a 4×4 off-roader SUV that will sit between the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Fortuner. The off-roader SUV by Toyota will have rich comfort and new tech features. It will compete with several SUVs that are priced between Rs 22 lakh – 30 lakh, on-road price in Mumbai.

Mahindra and Tata

The SUV segment is clearly conquered by brands such as Mahindra and Tata. Both Mahindra and Tata are Indian car manufacturers and they have fruitfully emerged as crowned heads of SUVs in India.

Mahindra presently sells over nine SUVS in India

Mahindra XUV 3XO, Mahindra XUV 700, Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Thar Roxx, Mahindra Scorpio N, Mahindra Scorpio Classic, Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Bolero Neo and Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus. Mahindra is set to launch over four new electric SUVs in India.

Tata presently sells over eight SUVS in India

Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, Tata Curvv, Tata Curvv EV, Tata Nexon, Tata Punch, Tata Punch EV, and Tata Nexon EV. Like Mahindra, Tata has over four to five EV SUVs set to launch in India.

With Mahindra and Tata continuing their influence in India, now Toyota is determined to launch a new off-roader SUV.

Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular and highest-selling SUVs globally. In India, the Toyota Fortuner is one of the most treasured cars. But the Fortuner is overly priced. It is priced at Rs 60 lakhs, the on-road price in Mumbai whereas the higher variant of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is priced at 22 lakhs, the on-road price in Mumbai. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder rivals the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Toyota has no SUV in the 25 – 30 lakh category that rivals the Scorpio N and Thar Roxx.

Now, Toyota is determined to bring a new luxury off-roader SUV that will be based on the Mini Fortuner stage in India. Toyota is presently working on the SUV idea and plans to locally assemble the SUV at its manufacturing plant and launch it before 2027.
