Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that they will locally assemble the flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs in India. India is now the first country outside of the UK to manufacture Land Rover cars. Prices of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will go down significantly as both SUVs will now be assembled in India, bringing down the taxes.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will now assemble Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India at Land Rover’s Pune manufacturing plant. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is already locally assembling other models such as Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, and Land Rover Discovery.
However, the prices of the flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have gone down as the new Range Rover will start from Rs 2.36 crore and the Range Rover Sport will start from Rs 1.4 crore, both ex-showroom prices.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India
Back in 2011, JLR signed a contract with Tata Motors to manufacture JLR cars at Tata Motor’s Chakan plant in Pune. While all cars of Land Rover will now be assembled in India, JLR won’t be assembling the Defender in India.
The Land Rover Defender is JLR’s best-selling car in India with over 1315 units sold since its launch. However, the Defender will continue to get fully imported.
JLR sold over 400 units of the new Range Rover in FY2024. The Range Rover is one of the most expensive cars in India. The higher trim and LWB variant of the Range Rover costs over 4 crore, on-road price in Mumbai.
JLR has also announced the opening of ‘Range Rover House’ on the outskirts of Mumbai, Alibaug. Range Rover House is a concept where customers can experience modern luxury and customize the cars according to their preferences. The Range Rover House will display ‘Made In India’ Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
Flagship Range Rover SUV

The new ‘Made in India’ flagship Range Rover 3.0-liter diesel HSE LWB variant is priced at Rs 2.36 crore while the 3.0-litre petrol Autobiography LWB is priced at Rs 2.60 crore, ex-showrooms. The new ‘Made in India’ Range Rover now costs Rs 44 lakh and Rs 56 lakh less than the fully imported SUV.
The ‘Made in India’ Range Rover will be offered with two engine options – the 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol producing 392hp and 550Nm, and the 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel producing 345hp and 700Nm.
Range Rover Sport SUV
Range Rover Sport is the slighter version of the flagship Range Rover SUV. still, the Range Rover Sport is one of the most attractive and powerful cars in the market. JLR sold over 400 units of Range Rover Sport in FY2024.
The fully imported Range Rover Sport cost between Rs 1.69 crore and Rs 2.80 crore, ex-showrooms. It was quite expensive.
Now, the ‘Made in India’ Range Rover Sport petrol variant and 3.0-litre diesel variant are priced at Rs 1.40 crore, ex-showroom. The ‘Made in India’ Range Rover Sport gets a price cut by 30 lakh for both variants.
The ‘Made in India’ Range Rover Sport will also be offered with the same 392hp, 3.0-litre petrol and 345hp, 3.0-litre diesel engines; the 4.4-litre V8 SV Edition will continue to be an import.
Deliveries of both SUVs the flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have commenced in India. customers are overjoyed with the prices going down. However, the Land Rover Defender is the most popular and desiring car in India right now. Potential buyers of Defender will hope for JLR to locally assemble the Defender too.
